Caregiver SupportIt’s important that we plan to take advantage of available programs to help care for our loved ones in their later years. It’s equally important for the CAREGIVERS for loved ones to know of and take advantage of government programs designed to ease their burden.

Below is information about the Caregiver Support Program offered by Franklin County Senior Options, a county program supported by local voter support for the Senior Options levy. Similar programs are offered in neighboring counties through their Senior Options agencies.

Contact Browning & Meyer at 614-471-0085 or through our website at ElderLaw.US for additional information on guided participation in this program.

The Caregiver Support Program aids caregivers of adults age 60 and older on a short-term basis. Assistance is limited to a three-month time period per calendar year with a cost ceiling for services.

The program can assist with a variety of services, including in-home respite, adult day care, caregiver counseling, institutional respite in a licensed facility, and durable medical equipment.

To enroll, caregivers must call at 614-525-6200. A case manager will complete a confidential application over the phone and determine eligibility. They will also assist the caregiver in determining what type of service is needed.

A contribution may be suggested for some services. The contribution amount is based solely on the income of the care recipient. Contributions are voluntary; participants will not be denied service due to inability to pay.

Caregiver Support is accessible through the Senior Options program, but the two programs have different qualifying criteria.

For more information, contact Senior Options at 614-525-6200.
